Tips for Using Social Media for Your Information Product Launch

Generally speaking, social media is best used to build a community. It's not proper etiquette to use social networking posts to promote your business. That being said, there are still ways to use social media to launch your information product.

#1 Connect Early

Hopefully, you've already been interacting on social media. You can use it to connect with the players in your industry. Identify these key people and start connecting.

#2 Pre-launch

One thing you can do to generate interest and excitement for your information product is to post comments about it beforehand. These comments can be as simple as, "Working on an information product I'm really excited about. It's going to help so many people." It can also be more strategic. You can create content that offers information and alludes to a better solution. Post links to that content on your social networking sites and invite comments.

Additionally, you can ask for help and advice from people to help generate excitement. Ask them their opinion on the most challenging aspect of your niche. Then tell them you're working on a solution.

#3 Fan Pages

The one place it is clearly okay to self promote is your Facebook Fan page. If you don't have one, consider looking into it. If you already have a profile, you can "Share" links to your Fan Page that help promote your information product.

#4 Plan Your Content

Once you're ready to launch, have blog posts and articles at the ready. Publish links to all of these content pieces from your social networking site. That way, you're offering value and also sneaking in a bit of promotion.

#5 Track Results

Pay attention to the posts that generate the most attention, comments, clicks, and retweets and repeat those tactics. For example, your audience may respond more to a question post like, "How do you stay motivated," than an attention grabbing headline like "Learn how to stay motivated." Testing and tracking will help you give your audience more of what it likes and responds to and it'll help you market your information product effectively.

Social media is a place where people gather to share and connect. You can embrace this feature of social networking and still market your information product effectively. Keep your friends, followers and audience in mind with every communication. Make sure you're offering value, connecting, and interacting. Blatant self promotion isn't acceptable on social media sites, however, offering value is!
